Asthma / Reflux Connection Explained

Found a few things already:

  • A good explanation of the whole deal on InfantRefluxDisease.com

  • Some interesting info from ClinicalTrial.gov

  • And a bunch of info at NationalJewish.org, including:

    Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
In some people, the muscle between the esophagus and stomach may allow some back flow of stomach acid into the esophagus. This may cause heartburn, as well as a reflex response that can result in asthma symptoms

Thanks for the comment! We chose a PP because little B's asthma isn't allergy related. We actually connected with her when he was in the hospital with RSV at 18 mos. and very slow to recover. We've been seeing her ever since. She has sent us to an allergist and ENT when necessary....

But his asthma is triggered usually by upper respiratory infections and tends to develop into pneumonia, so a PP is more approriate for us.

I think it's great that you're seeing a specialist. If your asthma/allergy specialist is helping you manage your son's asthma well, and giving you the support you need, that's ideal. But if you feel you need a second opinion, you could definitely check out a PP. We love ours.

BTW, your boys are almost the same ages and distance apart as mine! (We're 4 and 18 months.) I'm enjoying them both so much! We'll see how we manage when mystery baby is born in December/January...
